Smith Brothers Ltd is a large, turnkey electrical contractor with over 20 years’ experience. Since our inception in 1999, we’ve worked on a vast portfolio of projects throughout the UK and overseas, both as an ICP and EPC contractor on schemes up to 132kV.
But how exactly have we progressed from a small, family-run business based in Elland, West Yorkshire, to being trusted by some of the country’s most well-known brands?
We offer a range of services and can cater for everything from the delivery of a turnkey project – including the supply and commissioning of equipment and cabling installations from LV up to 132,000 volts – to ongoing preventative maintenance, ensuring your equipment continues to run smoothly.
Having recently expanded into the Irish market, we have also begun work on various projects as an EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) provider – developing gas peaking and battery sites – and have a supply agreement in place with MTU (Rolls Royce) and BYD.
Whether we’re working on a high or low voltage distribution system, a simple assignment or a complex project, we have varied and in-depth experience at our fingertips. Our team is made up of highly trained electrical, jointers, wiremen and fitters – not to mention back-office staff including estimators and project coordinators.
The team’s multi-disciplined engineering skillset translates into an ability to complete every job safely, on time and to budget – however complex. While every project is different, the one similarity with each customer is they appoint us for our in-house expertise.
We’ve worked hard to uphold a series of industry standards and have an enviable health and safety record. As a registered UK company holding BS-ISO 9001, quality is always a high priority. All work is carried out under a risk assessment and method statement as required by law, and as part of our commitment to health, safety, and the environment, we also hold ISO 45001 and BS EN ISO 14001:2004 certifications too.

As one of the founding directors of Smith Brothers, Richard set up the business in 1999 and now oversees the management of the company.
Having founded the firm alongside Richard in 1999, John also assumes the position of joint founder, overseeing the management of the fim.
Dave oversees the day-to-day running of Smith Brothers. His career has seen him work on an array of complex generation projects – including power stations, wind farms and solar sites.
As operations director, Craig oversees the safe and efficient delivery of all design projects, services, and infrastructure alongside Richard Smith.
As delivery director, Liam ensures all projects are fulfilled on time and in accordance with budget and contracts.
As operations manager, John works alongside Craig to support him with the delivery of all design projects, services, and infrastructure.
Having worked at Smith Brothers since 2008, Michelle is in charge of office administration and is the principal processor of all financial data.
With six years’ experience in the industry, Alex joined Smith Brothers in 2021 and manages the day-to-day running of the tendering department.
