The Connection: August
As another month comes to an end, we’re looking back at the progress our team have achieved on site over the last few weeks – while also welcoming a few new faces. Read on to find out what’s been happening behind the scenes this month.
18MW BESS project - concrete pour
Thank you to Ken Epplestone for sending in his photos from the battery base preparation at our latest BESS project in Rochdale, showcasing the ‘before and after’ of a recent concrete pour for the shared substation base on this 18MW project.
Soon afterwards, our engineers made a start on the base of the structure itself – and there’s been much progress since then. Keep an eye on our social media feeds throughout September for further updates from the Greater Manchester site.
A warm welcome to our quartet of apprentices!
Already on their way to becoming fully-fledged HV cable jointers and fitters, Smith Brothers has welcomed four new faces to the team in the last month. We’re proud to be supporting the next generation of talent in the electrical engineering sector and wish our new recruits the best of luck.
A site visit in South Yorkshire
We were recently employed by a South Yorkshire alloy manufacturer to oversee the removal of their existing Ellison AP1/ GEC BVP 17 intake switchgear, which was then replaced with Schneider Electric Genie Evo. Two 1960’s ONAN transformer replacements were also included in the upgrade works, with the customer opting for GBE S.p.A cast resin insulated replacements Keep an eye on our case studies section, for more on this next month…
Short-Term Operating Reserve (STOR) snaps
And finally, thank you to Nigel Jones – local resident, and friend of Smith Brothers – for sharing this photo from a recent trip to the Beaufort gas peaking plant in Wales. Find out more about the project, here.
