Lynemouth Power Station

Private Distribution June 2016 to April 2017

OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE - FUNTIONAL REQUIREMENTS.

On this project, Smith Brothers Limited were responsible for design, procurement, construction and commissioning an electrical connection, capable of supplying a total load of 20MVA. Power was delivered via a closed ring to the biomass materials handling primary substation located on the north-west side of the power station, and to the three biomass boiler unit substations located to the east of the east perimeter road. From the primary substation, radial feeds now provide power to the llkV/415V transformers at biomass materials handling 1 and biomass materials handling 2 substations. The electrical connection provides power for loads which are critical to the operation of the power station.

THE WORKS.

The power source is provided from two existing 20MVA 24/1 lkV transformers at substation 402, which are located adjacent to the former smelter site. The transformers currently supply power to the adjacent llkV distribution board.

Smith Brothers have made off the following connections inclusive of trenching/HDD and llkV cable laying.

Transfer the two transformer in-feeds from the llkV distribution board to the llkV Biomass board.

Transfer two station supplies transformer feeds from the llkV distribution board to the llkV biomass board.

Connect the incomers to the llkV distribution board on the llkV biomass board.

Connect the two ends of the llkV biomass ring to the llkV biomass board. “Power is transmitted from substation 402 to the power station via two underground cable circuits, with appropriate separation to ensure that failure in one circuit will not affect the operation of the other circuit. Each circuit has been rated for the full design load. The cables run adjacent to the 24kV overhead lines from the generators to substation 402, on land which is owned by the power station. A public road under the ownership of the local authorities and a railway embankment under the ownership of the power Station has been installed by Smith Brothers Limited.” Within the power station’s boundary, the double circuit continues underground and on above ground cable ladders at the existing 402 building, the cable route continues to biomass materials handling primary substation, and then to the three biomass boiler unit substations, located at the far end of the power-station.

Supply of new llkV packaged switchboard with 9 bays including breakers, including all associated civil works, for the llkV biomass substation at area 402. Installation of new llkV packaged switchboard, including all associated civil works, for the biomass materials handling primary substation. The switchboard includes two spare bays, one in each board section.

Supply and installation of three new packaged switchboards, including all associated civil works, for the three biomass boiler unit substations with 7 bays including breakers. Suitable earthing arrangements to be made to connect to the existing earthing system at the power station and at 402 substation. Disconnection of existing 20MVA 24/llkV transformers from the existing llkV distribution board, and connection of both the transformers and the board to the new llkV biomass board.

Transfer of the two feeders to the substation 402 station supplies transformers from the existing llkV distribution board to the new llkV biomass board. Laying of llkv cables from Substation 402 to the power station, including drilling under the public road and the private railway line. Laying of cables on the power station grounds, including trenching/cable ladders etc. and connection to the Biomass Materials Handling Primary substation and the three Biomass Boiler Unit substations.

Connection to the termination points from the Biomass Materials Handling Primary substation and from the three Biomass Boiler Unit substations. Laying of cables including trenching for the radial feeds from the biomass materials handling primary substation biomass material handling 1 8c 2 substations as supplied by others.
