OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE.
Smith Brothers were appointed as the Independent Connections Provider (ICP) to provide an electricity connection to facilitate, an increase in the available import capacity to 3.541MVA and 5.5MVA export capacity resulting from the installation of a roof top solar scheme to the Kingspan factory located in Sherburn, North Yorkshire.
Smith Brothers successfully installed a trench suitable for the installation of 3no. single core 300mm2 aluminium triplex cables and 7 pair pilot cable from the point of connection to the newly built DNO substation. The mains route from the point of supply to the point of connection was 6 kilometres, working closely with North Yorkshire County Council.
A 7-pair filled pilot cable was installed for loss of mains intertripping scheme installed from the POC to the newly constructed substation [adopted by Northern Power Grid].
A load management scheme was installed to ensure the maximum import demand is not exceeded when connected to the network alternative feeder.
GENERAL DESRIPTION - Smith Brothers Scope.
A prefabricated steel substation was constructed to accommodate the switchgear and ancillary equipment. The design of this substation was suitable to install an llkV extensible HV panel with metering annexe.
The metering equipment and the emergency push button was housed within a freestanding metering cubicle adjacent to the new substation. A 30V DC battery system was housed in the NPG substation to supply the protection panel.
Three extensible SE6-S1/21 switch disconnectors were supplied and installed by Smith Brothers teams. Two of the switch disconnectors picked up the existing network whilst the third switch disconnector was connected to the new supply from the existing Butterwick substation. Switch disconnectors were fitted with Fault Passage Indicators.
