By 2050, the UK and Ireland’s renewables sector is expected to generate in excess of £40 billion a year. This notably growing market therefore looks set to reshape the nation’s energy agenda, and Smith Brothers has a significant role to play.
We’re the contractor of choice for two of the UK’s largest solar power developers – having already executed more than 100 of their projects, for instance – and we’ve worked on some of the biggest STOR schemes in the country.
We’ve secured the jobs because of our experience in this complex field, and our ability to supply safe, professional turnkey services.
There are virtually no wind power, solar energy, hydro, bio-generation, AD, waste to energy or STOR electrical infrastructure requirements that we cannot fulfil.
Our highly-skilled high voltage electrical engineers can carry out the following services:
As the windiest place in Europe, in 2008 the UK became the world’s biggest offshore wind power generator, before reaching the milestone capacity of 1GW in 2010. The UK’s solar power market has also reached a value of £1.6 billion a year, and the geothermal, biomass and waste to energy markets are continually advancing.
This is therefore one of the most exciting and evolving industries in the country. And when it comes to connecting these renewable energy infrastructures to enable the safe and reliable operation of the high voltage electricity network, many of the sector’s biggest names will turn to us.
Having been appointed by NextEnergy Solar Fund as the Independent Connection Provider (ICP) for this new solar-generation project, Smith Brothers began work in May 2019. Under the scope of works, the 21-strong Smith Brothers team designed, constructed, installed and tested the UK Power Network’s (UKPN) 132kV substation and private 132/33kV customer substation, right on schedule.
